So many pathways to making passive income or growing a business involve SALES.
So, if you’re in the majority of people who are resistant or hesitant to doing anything that involves sales, your money-making efforts are weighted down tremendously like someone wearing a 50 lb. ball-and-chain around their ankle while they’re trying to climb Mt. Everest.
“Sales Resistance” or “Sales Hesistancy” can result in a broad range of emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.
It can feel like a hollow pit or a knot of anxiety in one’s stomach, or it can result in headaches that follow what feels like really stressful work when a person feels blocked to do their sales-work.
It can look like procrastination and avoidance of any part of the sales process. Inside someone’s head, they may make lists of reasons why they shouldn’t do X or they should do Y instead, when deep down that doesn’t feel like a truly effective path to them.
Or, it may feel like they’re just spinning in a whirlpool of uncertainty, all alone.
I’ve even seen people whose jobs are titled “Salesperson” who feel blocked around doing sales, and I’m not just talking about not having the proper skills or training to do it effectively.
Yes, that’s certainly important and powerful, but you’re likely to have very little motivation to take yourself to the next level of sales skills by getting more training, or more importantly, to practice applying those new skills in your sales work, IF YOU ARE EMOTIONALLY BLOCKED AROUND ANY ASPECT OF THE SALES PROCESS.
This emotional blockage around aspects of the sales process, whether it’s cold-calling and feeling uncomfortable doing so, feeling hesitant to reach out to a friend to share an income opportunity, following-up with a sales prospect but feeling like you’re a bother to the person you’re reaching out to, etc., all of these blockages come from one or more events that you’ve experienced in your lifetime that had some sort of negative emotion associated with them for you.
Earlier life events can impact you now
These events can impact you at any age, from infancy to present day.
So, imagine that your 7 year old self was told by a parent that “you’re bothering me” when you were innocently following-up about a pending question you had for your parent.
Even in such a simple scenario that wouldn’t necessarily be deemed a “capital-T trauma”, it can still have traumatic impact on you, so we can even call it a “small-t trauma”.
Events like those not only can traumatize us to some extent, but they also shape our beliefs about the world.
These “small-t traumas” can also have a huge impact on molding our personalities and how we interact in the world.
Not surprisingly, they wiggle their way into our relationships with friends, family, and romantic partners, but especially, they take their toll on us not just emotionally, but also financially, when these unresolved small-t traumas, impact our work world.
And, they seem to be amplified in the realm of sales, because, there are so many dynamics occurring psychologically and emotionally, as well as each party’s views around money, timing, and decision-making all factoring in at the same time.
Mix all of this together with a salesperson’s skill, anxiety, and confidence levels, and you can have the perfect blend for SALES RESISTANCE or SALES HESISTANCY.
So, what can be done?
Luckily, there is a simple process for addressing these concerns, and thankfully, you can breathe a sigh of relief, it doesn’t involve 20 years of psychotherapy.
1st, you have to admit that there’s some sales resistance or hesitancy going on for you, or, at the very least, you have to desire to want to have a greater comfort level with or enjoyment of the sales process.
2nd, you have to identify the specific moments where you feel more blocked in the sales process.
3rd, you have to find out what the root causes, or small-t traumas, are, that underlie your sales resistance &/or hesistancy.
And, lastly, you have to clear those traumas, heal the old wounds, and come back to the sales table without your younger, traumatized self, running the show.
This way, you get to show up as “present day you” in your sales work, feeling lighter, more energized and more empowered to do your work and to create the wealth you deserve to have in your life.
You may logically ask, “Well, how do I do those 4 steps?”
Well, it follows the same framework that I’m revealing in my Unblock Your Wealth program.
